The Samsung Galaxy A71 is the advanced intermediate smartphone that was launched in 2020, with the difficult task of overcoming its highly successful older brother, the Galaxy A70.
Parallel to the launch of the Galaxy A71, the Samsung Galaxy A51 was also launched, a simpler intermediate smartphone that inevitably is compared to the Galaxy A71, in terms of cost-effectiveness.

Galaxy A71: design and construction
The Samsung Galaxy A71 was built in a plastic body and has a plastic back. Only the front of the device is made of glass and has Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
These characteristics contributed to the cheaper value of the device and to its lightness (179g). However, still, I consider that the Galaxy A71 has a high value that does not justify the construction.
In addition, we have the possibility to expand the memory of the Galaxy A71, while using two chips from different operators. What great.
At the bottom, we have a 3.5mm jack for conventional headphones. Something that brands are abolishing on smartphones, even in intermediate models.
As for the cameras, we have a front hole that holds the A71’s selfie camera. And on the back, we have the famous ‘cooktop’ design that features a very versatile set of 4 cameras.
I definitely liked the design of the Galaxy A71. It is a modern and elegant design that, in my opinion, surpasses the solution proposed by the competitor: Apple.
Galaxy A71: screen
the Galaxy A71 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen without HDR 10 technology, present in the brand’s most expensive models. The screen has a slight curvature on the sides of 2.5d.
Regardless, the screen has a lot of quality. We have very saturated colors, very deep black tones and a great level of contrast. Quite different from the Galaxy A51 screen, which has a deficient contrast level.
Using automatic brightness, this screen is capable of reaching 515 nits. A configuration that guarantees comfort, even in use in bright sunlight.
During the time I used the Galaxy A71, no screen leaks or any common problems reported on these more advanced screens were detected.
Galaxy A71: hardware and software
The Samsung Galaxy A71 comes with a Snapdragon 730G chipset, an Adreno 618 graphics card and 6 GB of Ram.
This hardware configuration, in line with Samsung’s interface, One Ui 2.0, revealed an experience of fluidity, high speed and high performance in games.
During the time that I used the Samsung Galaxy A71, I didn’t experience any type of crash or lag when using applications or games. Unlike the simpler brother, the Galaxy A51, which occasionally crashed and closed applications.
Samsung’s interface, One Ui 2.0, was very fluid and brought several customization options and several useful tools in daily use, such as ‘dark mode’, ‘focus mode’ and ‘Edge screen’.
Galaxy A71: cameras
The Samsung Galaxy A71 brings a complete set with 4 cameras at the rear. The main one has 64mp and an aperture of f / 1.8.
I tested this camera in different light situations. And the following photos were taken without the 64mp mode activated, since this mode is not suitable for large scenarios, as it requires post-processing details.
As you can see, these first photos were taken in high light and revealed a great photographic work for the Galaxy A71.
Post-processing delivers a lot of detail, even with HDR mode enabled. We also have a very saturated color game, which I like very much.
In addition, we have an excellent level of contrast. The photos also reveal a good control of the level of light exposure, where even the sky in the scenarios has preserved characteristics.
In the photo above, the Galaxy A71 wide-angle camera lens was used and the work delivered was very good. We have a good level of detail.
Next, you’ll see the photos taken with the Samsung Galaxy A71’s cameras in low light situations. Pay attention to the noise level (detailing) and control in light exposure.
As you can see, in these photos the noise level is kept low. Which made me very satisfied. There is also good control over light exposure, making it possible to see even the windows of buildings.
Below, there are some pictures taken with the selfie camera, which in high light situations delivered a good job, with good control of light exposure and level of detail.
However, in low light situations (second photo), the selfie camera did a poor job and revealed to suffer mainly from noise. Other smartphone cameras in the same range deliver superior work.
Below I also tested the Galaxy A71’s ‘portrait mode’ and ‘macro mode’. Both delivered good jobs. In ‘portrait mode’, we had a good cut and in ‘macro mode’, a good level of detail.
Galaxy A71: battery
When testing the Galaxy A71 battery, I got a 10% play time per hour, with the screen brightness level at medium. Good autonomy, taking into account the size of the screen.
In daily use, or Galaxy A71 showed that it comes to the end of the day, with about 30% battery. It is not the best autonomy in the market, but it was within the average.
Galaxy A71: is it worth it?
Considering the progressive drop in price of the Galaxy A71, I can suggest that it will reach a great cost-benefit ratio within a few months.
Comparing the A71 to the A51, I can say that the acquisition of the Galaxy A71 is much more worthwhile. Since in this model, I did not have any type of locking during the time of use and had a much more advanced photographic experience.
